Amazing discipline
My two little ladies got into a scuffle that turned rather ugly while cleaning thier room. It seems that Addi tore up and threw away something that was important to Charis so Charis scratched her on the face, rather brutally, leaving a whelt of sorts.
Addi came to me with the problem, I did not hear it because I was collecting eggs out back. My knee jerk reaction probably would have been to spank Charis and have her appologize to Addi. However, I really hate to spank them, it is not very effective and just makes them really angry which irritates the fighting even more in our home.
This may be a no brainer for all of the rest of you but for me it is one of those I think I might have handled that parenting situation well (yeah, that is a rare feeling for me). I looked at the scratches and called Charis and had her look at them and asked her how she thought that felt. She started crying and told Addi that she was sorry and gave her a hug. Then we went to the room where Addi had destroyed a small piece of paper of Charis’. Charis picked it up and was crying. I asked Addi how she thinks it would feel to have something of hers torn up? She also started crying and said that she was sorry.
That was the best discipline! May not work at all times in all situations, but we have to do the “happy dance” when something sinks in so well!
