I have not taken that promised picture of Kelcie in her skirt yet because we have been a regular beehive of activity. Saturday alone we:
1. 8 am Randon & I went to Boot camp together, his first time, he is really sore but we had a lot of fun.
2. 10am 4 haircuts to do.
3. 1pm 3 new converts baptized (2 new members in the Relief Society, WHOO HOO!). The R.S. did the refreshements for this.
4. 2pm Birthday party for all of the girls in the house.
5. 3pm Quick trip the the grocery store to prepare for Sunday.
6. 5 pm Wedding & Reception for our friend Stephen and his bride Jacqelyn.
7. 10pm fall into bed, exhausted.
I will get to that picture, some time.

My good friend Paola invited me to join a book group that she and her friends from high school have put together. I LOVE to read good books and so I was eager to join. The books that we have read so far have been so excellent so I wanted to recomend them to my friends who read this blog and are always looking for good literature to read.
The first book we read was called SOLD by Patricia McCormick. I highly recomend this book. It is an awakening. It is a quick and easy read, written in vignettes which makes it even more compelling.
The second book we are reading is called The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I am just starting this one but so far it is one of those books you read that absolutely alters you for good.
Enjoy.

Kelcie needed to do a 10 hour project for her Personal Progress in Young Womens. She was out of school last week and so it made perfect sense to take advantage of that. Kelcie chose to learn to sew and to sew herself a skirt that conformed to the guidelines in the “For the Strength of Youth” pamplet that our church puts out. Basically that just means that it should be of a modest length, to the knees.
So, my darling girl and I went to the store and chose a patern, which was challenging because she is a size 2 womens and they just don’t make paterns in that size much. But alas with some alteration lessons, as well as sewing lessons from her mother, Kelcie has prevailed and made a really cute, very stylish skirt, which she wore to church yesterday. I should have taken a picture while she was all dolled up but, I forgot. Since she LOVES to get dolled up I am sure that this will not be a challenge and I will get the picture done later this afternoon and post it.
BTW, I just have to brag, because I am so proud, hope that you can bear the proud mama boasting for a minute. Kelcie got all A’s with the exception of 1 B (and only by one measly point) on her report card. She is really self motivated and I rarely have to remind her to get her work done, so I am doubly proud of her for this accomplishment. She does all of this and is involved in sports, does chores at home and is also involved in her young womens group at church, it is a lot for anyone.

My iPod broke a couple of days ago as soon as I was done running. I was crushed!! It had been on the blink for months though. The hold button stopped working long ago and the volume would never turn up as loudly as it used to and it began coming apart until that fateful day that it came apart completely and for good.
I rushed my beloved iPod to the iMac store right away where they pronoounced him D.O.A. They told me that while running is normal use for a iPod, it is not easy on the iPod because of the gears and the hard drive inside, this explains why I have gone through 2 since I first purchased my iPod. They recomended I purchase the new Nano edition of the iPod because it has a flash player and not all of the gears and moving parts like the 60GB that I have.
I was CRUSHED!! I NEED this little device to help me through my long runs. I NEEEED IT, it takes my mind off of the task at hand and takes me to a happy more determined place. I just didn’t know if I could run without it!
They told me that they could replace my wonderful old one for $70.00 under their battery plan, even though it was not a battery issue, and that I should purchase the Nano to be my new running partner and put the bigger one out to pasture.
I was reluctant, mourning and MAD!! I could not even make a decision. I consulted with my better half who insisted that I get my old one replaced and purchase the new running partner, in red. I was not sold on this idea at first so I took a couple of days to think it over, with constant pressure from my Randon to just do as he advised.
After running 2 days without it, I went today and got my old one replaced and purchased a little red one to run with me. My little red one is so light! I can’t wait to take her out on her maiden voyage in the morning.
I am smilin’ again.

Morgan loved it but was really stumped as to who would have given her this sweet gift annonymously. Lanie said that she was going to make a list of all of the kids in the class and figure out who did it. We were all joking that she could take a writing sample from all in their smallest writing possible. It was just so cute and fun to wonder about.
Well, Lanie did crack the case wide open, as she said she would. She found out that it was from one of Lanie and Morgan’s friends, Pierce. He made it with his mother and gave it to Morgan secretly, and wants it to remain a secret, he told Lanie. So, Morgan does not want to tell him thank you because she wants to respect his wish to remain annonymous.
Last night when I was talking with Morgan’s teacher she asked me if I knew about it. I told her that I did. She told me that this mother said that he likes Morgan because “she is not like other girls and that she dresses really nice”. LMBO!! Mrs. Reed told me that this boy is the best boy in the class. It turns out that he is “a very nice LDS boy”. So, this mother was asking about our Morgan too.
Morgan thinks that “going out” is ridiculous and that having a boyfriend is simply unnecessary and she thinks that the girls who worry about this in her class “are changed”, they don’t do as well in school once they start worrying about who they are going to go out with etc.
She is such a serious child so I was really questioning her about how she felt about this situation and she did not want to tell me much until I told her about a boy who had a crush on me in 4th grade and how I really resented him and detested him because he was always chasing me or trying to kiss me or some other irritating and stupid behavior, to my 4th grade mind. She then told me that he was her friend and that she did not mind because he was her friend and that he wanted to keep this secret.
We had a very long family discussion about this at dinner the day that this happened and I wasn’t sure how I felt about this, but now speaking to the teacher about it and Morgan alone, I am fine with this and I think it is adorable. I convinced Morgan to let me take this picture and document this so that she can someday share this with her husband.

Picture day is such a hectic day! Trying to get everyone all spiffed up for their once a year school photo….
The kids and I are glad that that is done for one more year. They were actually tardy today because we just could not get it all done and Morgan forgot her violin in the rush and we had to go back home for it.
I forgot to publish this one when I wrote it last week, oops!

I just got back from Parent-Teacher Conferences with my childrens teachers and thankfully they are all doing well in their studies. But it really made me feel so sad to hear them all tell me how hard it was on my children when I was sick. I already knew this, of course, but they saw a dramatic improvement in my childrens stress levels after I got better, and as a result in the quality of their work. I cannot really express how badly this makes me feel. I am so glad that my body healed and is better, not just for my sake.
I also noted while I was so ill that where ever I was, that was where our family congregated. During the time that I could not leave my bed, my bedroom became the dining room, the homework room, the family room, our living room etc. Our family room, dining room and living room were literally like ghost towns because they were unused during this time. It is incredibly humbling to reflect on. As mothers we do set the tone and tenor of our home, and our home is where ever we are. What an incredible wonder.
What a responsiblity we have as mothers to set a positive tone to our home for our family.

I think the Pony carriage rides and the gypsy tent were the biggest hits.
